“…It is important to note that these conclusions rested on only three studies that used a wide variety of techniques. Over the past 3 years, there have been at least seven reviews (Belleville, 2008;Cotelli, Menenti, Zanetti, & Miniussi, 2012;Huckans et al, 2013;Jean, Bergeron, Thivierge, & Simard, 2010;Reijnders, van Heugten, & van Boxtel, 2013;Simon, Yokomizo, & Bottino, 2012;Stott & Spector, 2011) and one meta-analysis (Li et al, 2011) that examined whether the cognitive rehabilitation of memory can be effective in those with MCI. The results of all eight of these works generally indicated that patients could benefit from memory rehabilitation.…”

“…In case of a significant prediction of verbal delayed recall (or the MMSE, respectively) from volume of the (whole) hippocampus, further associations were computed with its' subfields. As speed of information processing is usually not improved by strategy training (although cognitive exercises can be somewhat beneficial [5]), we did not predict change between pre-and post-training for this variable. Presence of APOE 4 alleles and frequency of completed homework task were included in all regression analyses.…”

“…Cognitive exercises tend to benefit the specific training task or domain (but see Noack et al [8]), while strategy training enhances cognitive functions beyond that [7]. Cognitive interventions are typically offered for 5-8 weeks; longer training programs did not consistently show better results [5].…”
