Cognitive Control initiative

Abstract: In this paper, we make an initial effort to define the scope and goals of "Cognitive Control (CoCo)", which intends to be a research initiative for bringing about a novel generation of control systems which -in a certain sensereflect the behavior of humans while solving everyday tasks. Very briefly stated, through the use of a rich inventory of available modeling techniques, control theory has achieved profound results in model-based control approaches. However, these solutions do not seem to begin to approach… Show more

“…CoCo deals with the dynamics of individual and/or collective cognitive phenomena. The theories and methodologies of CoCo give control theoretical interpretations of such dynamics in order to explain and control cognitive phenomena, as well as to apply them in system control design, without necessarily distinguishing between biological and artificial aspects [7].…”

“…Cognitive infocommunications (CogInfoCom) investigates the link between the research areas of infocommunications and cognitive sciences while cognitive control (CoCo) is an interdisciplinary branch of engineering, mathematics, informatics, control theory and the cognitive/social science that deals with the dynamics of individual and/or collective cognitive phenomena. The theories and methodologies of CoCo give control theoretical interpretations of such dynamics in order to explain and control cognitive phenomena, as well as to apply them in system control design, without necessarily distinguishing between biological and artificial aspects . Beyond the above mentioned application possibilities of the HOSVD and the TP model, it is also important to emphasize the strong relevance of integral operators to system modelling and identification.…”
