Cognitive biases in developing biased Artificial Intelligence recruitment system

Abstract: Artificial Intelligence (AI) in a business context is designed to provide organizations with valuable insight into decision-making and planning. Although AI can help managers make decisions, it may pose unprecedented issues, such as datasets and implicit biases built into algorithms. To assist managers with making unbiased effective decisions, AI needs to be unbiased too. Therefore, it is important to identify biases that may arise in the design and use of AI. One of the areas where AI is increasingly used is … Show more

“…AI cannot have human abilities, such as persuasion, building relationships with candidates, and convincing them to stay with you (Guenole and Feinzig 2018). Artificial intelligence is proficient at identifying talent, but activities such as assessing cultural fit still require humans to do so (Soleimani et al 2021;Upadhyay and Khandelwal 2018). It cannot understand cultural barriers and interact with another person better than humans can do (Nawaz 2019).…”

Most job seekers, according to study, have a poor image of a company if they do not receive any feedback from employer roles [20,21]. As a result, candidates are dissatisfied when they receive a late or no response to their job applications.…”

“…There are two drivers of biases in AI: training datasets and algorithms (Kaplan & Haenlein, 2019a;Shrestha et al, 2019). The previous empirical research finds like-me and cliché biases as two known biases in the recruitment and selection process that might happen in developing AIRS due to using HR managers' past hiring decisions as training datasets for developing AI (Soleimani et al, 2021). AI in the recruitment and selection process can be used in various areas such as reviewing a large volume of CVs, assessing candidates' personality through video interviews, and chatbots for candidates' engagement (Albert, 2019;Vedapradha et al, 2019).…”
