Cognitive bias modification and CBT as early interventions for adolescent social and test anxiety: Two-year follow-up of a randomized controlled trial

Abstract: This RCT does not support the longer-term efficacy of school-based CBT or CBM as an early intervention for social and test anxiety. Rather, it emphasizes the positive 'natural' course of highly socially anxious adolescents over two years.

The scenario training marginally reduced negative interpretation bias, but no such effect was found for the picture-word training (albeit in the absence of a closely-matched bias assessment).…”

“…The overall improvement in terms of anxiety and depressive symptoms and secondary emotional measures resembles the pattern of a previous study in adolescents [35]. These findings might suggest potential ceiling effects, although there seems to be enough room for improvement in adolescents with heightened symptoms.…”

“…In studies which Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has been worked in social phobia on children and adolescents, it is stated that CBT causes a significant decrease in social phobia level (Cuijpers et al, 2016;Hullu, Sportel, Nauta & Jong, 2017;Kerns, Read, Klugman & Kendall, 2013;Mcaleavey, Catonguay & Goldfried, 2014;O'Toole, Watson, Rosenberg & Berntsen, 2018). The number of publications in which humor has been worked via Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is low.…”
