“…Consequently, C. japonicum can create colonies by producing sprouts of various ages, which changes the age make-up of a stand. C. japonicum juveniles are more rare than those of coexisting tree species in riparian forests (Sakio et al, 2002), because most seedlings die in the current year as a result of desiccation or washing away despite their shade-tolerance (Kubo et al, 2000;Kubo et al, 2004).
