“…If, for example, mechanical hyperalgesia/allodynia associated with PPS were to be confirmed in a future, larger study this might strengthen the theory of sensitization as part of the pain seen in PPS. This could possibly also give further insights into the fact that it appears to be more frequent in patients with PPS that they also fulfil the criteria of concomitant fibromyalgia with generalized musculoskeletal pain ( 4 , 38 ).…”

“…The scores of ≥ 4.0 for BASDAI and ≥ 2.1 for ASDAS–CRP were regarded as high-disease activity [ 12 , 18 ]. The disease activity indexes and the patient-reported outcomes at the time of the last visit, including ASDAS–ESR, Maastricht Enthesopathy Score (MASES; 1–10), the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI; 1–10), the global VAS (1–100) for the patient, the physician, pain, and fatigue, the Disease Activity Index for Psoriatic Arthritis (DAPSA), the Psoriasis Area and Severity Score (PASI), the symptom severity score, fibromyalgia severity score, and tender, and swollen joint counts, were recorded [ 18 , 20 , 23 – 29 ].…”

“…The range is between zero (no symptoms) and 31 (most severe symptoms). A higher score is regarded as an approximate measure of fibromyalgia severity [ 29 ].…”

“…However, we have recently demonstrated that fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), which is a widespread chronic pain syndrome with somatic symptoms, is common in people with PPS. [ 8 ] Depending on the diagnostic criteria used, we found the prevalence of FMS to range from 15% to 35% in 60 people with PPS, which is higher than the prevalence in people with polio without PPS and in the general population. Moreover, coexisting FMS was found to correlate with more severe PPS symptoms, decreased quality of life (QoL), and more severe polio-related impairments.…”

“…The high prevalence of FMS that we reported recently also supports this assumption. [ 8 ] Therefore, our objectives were to investigate the presence and severity of CS in individuals with a history of poliomyelitis with and without PPS using the Central Sensitization Inventory (CSI), a valid and reliable scale to determine CS. [ 11 12 13 ] In addition, we evaluated whether CS was associated with the presence and severity of fatigue and pain, polio-related impairment, and QoL in people with PPS.…”
