Cobalt(II)‐Terephthalate Frameworks Containing Bis(benzimidazole) Derivative Co‐ligands: Syntheses, Crystal Structures, Catalytic and Fluorescence Properties

Abstract: Two metal-organic coordination polymers of Co II with the molecular formulae [Co(L 1 )(tp)(H 2 O) 2 ] n (1) and [Co(L 2 )(tp)·H 2 O] n (2) [L 1 = 1,4-bis(benzimidazole-1-ylmethyl)-benzene; L 2 = 1,1-(1,4-butanediyl)bis(5,6-dimethylbenzimidazole); tp = terephthalate] were synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies, infrared spectroscopy (IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), and elemental analysis.Supporting Information (see footnote on the first … Show more

“…The Co1-O1(O1A) bond lengths are 1.9762(15) Å and Co1-N1, Co1-N1A are 2.0162(2) and 2.0163(2) Å, respectively (symmetry code: A = 1-x, y, -z-1/2), which are all in agreement with corresponding bond lengths found in the literature. [27,28] In complex 2, two Co atoms are bridged by nda 2-ligands in μ 2 -bridging coordination mode to form a 1D infinite [Co(nda)] n chain ( Figure S1, Supporting Information). The Co···Co distance is 13.117(4) Å and the Co1···Co1···Co1 angle …”

“…The flexible nature of -(Ph-CH 2 )-spacers allows these ligands to bend and rotate when coordinated to metal centers, so as to conform to the coordination preferences of the metal. Ligands such as 1,3-bis(benzimidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene (L1) and 1,4-bis(benzimidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene have attracted great interest due to their strong coordination ability and variety of conformations [9][10][11]. When searching the Cambridge Structural Database (version 5.35, May 2014) [12], for 1,4-bis(5-methylbenzimidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene (L2) as a typical bis(benzimidazole) derivative, no structures were found.…”
