Cobalt‐based catalytic system for the chemical fixation of CO<sub>2</sub> under solvent‐free conditions

Six new carbonate-bridged Zn 2 Ln 2 cluster complexes derived from salen-type Schiff base ligands [H 2 L a = N, N 0-bis(3-methoxysalicylidene)-1,3diaminopropane and H 2 L b = N, N 0-bis(3-methoxysalicylidene)-1,2diaminoethane] have been synthesized. The bis-imine chain in Schiff base ligands have an obvious influence on the cluster complexes' structures, magnetic and luminescence properties. The carbonate bridging ligand exactly comes from autoimmobilization of carbon dioxide, which may mediate ferromagnetic coupling between Ln 3+ ions, favoring magnetocaloric effects and single molecule magnet (SMM) properties. Complexes Zn 2 Dy 2 (μ 3-CO 3) 2 (L a) 2 (NO 3) 2 (MeOH) 2 (1) and [Zn 2 Dy 2 (μ 3-CO 3) 2 (L b) 2 (NO 3) 2 ]Á2MeOH (2) show field-induced SMM properties; complexes Zn 2 Tb 2 (μ 3-CO 3) 2 (L a) 2 (NO 3) 2 (MeOH) 2 (3) and [Zn 2 Tb 2 (μ 3-CO 3) 2 (L b) 2 (NO 3) 2 ]Á2MeOH (4) display both luminescence and field-induced SMM behaviors; while complexes [Zn 2 Gd 2 (μ 3-CO 3) 2 (L a) 2 (NO 3) 2 ]Á2MeOH (5) and [Zn 2 Gd 2 (μ 3-CO 3) 2 (L b) 2 (NO 3) 2 ]Á 2MeOH (6) exhibit medium magnetic entropy changes, which are candidates for cryogenic molecular magnetic refrigerants.

N‐containing heterocyclic compounds are one of the most important motifs prevalent in various bioactive natural products and pharmaceuticals. Given the significance of N‐containing heterocyclic compounds, various synthetic strategies have been developed. Copper/ligand (abbreviated as [CuL])‐catalyzed cascade reaction is a powerful and efficient tool for the construction of N‐containing heterocyclic compounds. L‐proline is one universal ligand and has been utilized in the copper‐catalyzed reactions. In this review, copper/L‐proline‐catalyzed tandem reaction to synthesize the five‐ and six‐membered compounds is emphatically introduced. By comparing the yields in the presence and absence of the ligand, the importance of L‐proline is recorded. Moreover, the function of L‐proline is expounded on the basis of the reaction mechanism from original article.

Athree-component catalytic system including pyridine-bridged benzimidazolium salts, CrCl 2 , and tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) was developed. Based on the control experiments and spectroscopic measurements, the role of the three components in the catalytic process was clarified, in which benzimidazolium salts were used as N-heterocyclic carbene precursor, a new Cr complex generating from the coordination of CrCl 2 with pyridine nitrogen and pyrazole nitrogen bearing benzimidazolium salts was employed as hydrogen bond donor, TBAB was used as nucleophilic reagent, respectively. Under mild conditions (50 C and 1 bar CO 2 ), the terminal epoxides displayed high reactivity in the three-component catalytic system. The catalytic system showed also high catalytic activity for the internal epoxides by increasing the temperature and CO 2 pressure and/or prolonging the reaction time.
