Abstract: Cobalt−chromium−molybdenum (CoCrMo) alloys are routinely used in arthroplasty. CoCrMo wear particles and ions derived from arthroplasty implants lead to macrophage-driven adverse local tissue reactions, which have been linked to an increased risk of periprosthetic joint infection after revision arthroplasty.
