Coaxial Narrowband Filters Using a Versatile Suspended Resonator

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, two four-pole filters at X-band are presented, both designs use a coaxial quarter wavelength resonator suspended in air by short circuits between the coaxial center and outer conductor. Different couplings between suspended resonators have been used to obtain a Chebyshev and a quasi-elliptic response. The Chebyshev filter was designed to have a 9.2 GHz centre frequency with a 4% fractional bandwidth. The second design is a quasi-elliptic filter composed of two vertically stacked rectang… Show more

“…With respect to the previous method available in [1], the new method has three advantages: 1) the CM extraction of the filter with source-load coupling has been taken into account; 2) unloaded Q for each resonator may be non-uniform; and 3) the new method has the higher accuracy and robustness. The method can guide the tuning of coupled resonator bandpass filters (as in [5][6][7]), dual-band resonator bandpass filters (as in [8][9][10]), and dual-mode bandpass filters (as in [11,12]), which are designed according to the CM, to accelerate filter design and a physical realization.…”

“…In [5,6], Belyaev et al miniaturized SSS BPFs with high selectivity performance. Similar to SSS structure, a filter with a coaxial tube housing the suspended resonators was reported in [7]. Menzel et al [8][9][10][11] used a quasi-lumped approach to design some SSS filters and diplexers.…”

“…The proposed method is also suitable for the measured S 11 and S 21 with the different phase shift. This method will find many practical applications for the tuning of coupled resonator bandpass filters (as in [14][15][16][17][18]), dual-band resonator bandpass filters (as in [19][20][21][22]), and dual-mode bandpass filters (as in [23,24]), which are designed according to the coupling matrix. It is expected that the proposed CM extraction method can significantly accelerate the tuning of high-order cross-coupled resonator filters to obtain the required filter response and a physical realization.…”
