Coaxial Line Discontinuities

Abstract: Various types of discontinuities with their equivalent circuits are discussed. These include gaps in the center conductor, open‐ended configuration, open reflection standard, impedance step, and T (“tee”) junction. Design information for equivalent‐circuit parameters is provided. The effect of frequency on discontinuity parameters is also included.

“…Such dependence on the detailed shape of the junction is of course not incorporated in the simple transmission line model above. Following the literature of microwave circuits one could develop a more sophisticated model that includes additional lumped circuit elements , to describe the properties of the junction more accurately. Nevertheless, as we can see here the simple model above does provide very important guidance for the overall design of the T-splitter.…”
