Coastal cliff at Lenzer Bach on Jasmund Peninsula, Rügen Island (Pleistocene Stripe 4): reconstructed history of glacitectonic deformation based on fold geometry and microstructural mapping

Abstract: Abstract. A thrust-bound footwall syncline located within the proximal part of the southern Jasmund Glacitectonic Complex is investigated, exploring the spatio-temporal relationship between glacitectonic macro- and microstructures. Orientation and geometry of macroscale folds and thrust faults reveal a two-phased deformation history recorded by the sedimentary sequence. The deformation is a result of glacitectonic imbrication and subsequent ice flow across Jasmund Peninsula during the late Weichselian. Clast m… Show more

“…3). Based on field observations, modelling, and detailed macro-and microtectonic descriptions, a thrust steeply dipping towards the WSW (245/85) is suggested for the WU3/WU1-boundary (Mehlhorn et al 2019). Down towards the décollement zone at 105 m b. s. l. it becomes less steeply inclined in a listric manner (245/46, 245/25) (Tab.…”

“…Steinich, 1992;Panzig, 1995;Ludwig, 2006;Müller and Obst, 2006;Kenzler et al, 2017;Kenzler and Hüneke, 2019). The microfabrics within the tills laid down by the SIS have been studied by means of two-and three-6 A. Börner et al: The Quaternary sequence of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania dimensional analyses based on the microstructural mapping, which enables the identification and interpretation of the successive generations of fabrics in terms of a progressive, polyphase deformation history (Brumme, 2015;Brumme et al, 2019;Gehrmann et al, 2017Gehrmann et al, , 2019Mehlhorn et al, 2019). The orientation of these microfabrics can be directly related to changes in the regional ice-flow direction across the peninsula of Jasmund.…”
