Coarctations of descending and abdominal aorta: Long-term results of surgical therapy

Abstract: Complete operative correction of DAAC usually can be accomplished as a single-stage procedure with low morbidity and mortality rates. The reconstruction of all renal arteries is essential to cure hypertension. Consequent follow-up is recommended for detection of late postoperative complications.

“…Association of intracranial aneurysms with these types of coarctation is well recognized. However, a much less common variety (0.5 -2.0%) of aortic coarctation is located in the distal thoracic aorta, or abdominal aorta [6,7]. Very few reports of association of intracranial aneurysms with distal thoracic aortic, or abdominal aortic coarctation are in the literature [3,4].…”

“…Mid-aortic syndrome [13], aldosterone producing tumor [14], aortic coarctations [15] and stretching of the renal artery by neural tumor have also been described as possible determinants. The vascular lesions of renal artery stenosis were characterized by fibromuscular dysplasia [10,16], intramural renal artery Schwann cell proliferation [17], or vascular lesions characterized by an intimal proliferation of spindle cells with destruction of the internal elastic membrane, frequently accompanied by loss or attenuation of the media and fibrosis of the 195 Fig.…”
