This article discusses the atomization of composite liquid fuels. A large group of injectors is considered. A comparative analysis of the atomization characteristics (droplet sizes and velocities, jet opening angles) and the influence of the fuel characteristics (density, viscosity, component composition) and the process parameters (the ratio of the fuel–air mass flow rates, the features of the jet formation) has been carried out. Finally, the most effective types of injectors, which provide for the necessary characteristics of fuel atomization for its combustion, have been determined. The most favorable conditions for the applicability of each type of atomization have been formulated. Possible mechanisms of secondary fragmentation of droplets of composite fuels have been analyzed: those resulting from mutual collisions of droplets in the flux and from the interaction with a solid surface as well as those resulting from thermal overheating in the presence of a phase boundary or a large gradient of component volatility. A conclusion is made about the need of using a synergistic effect of primary and secondary atomization of fuel suspension droplets.

In this paper, we considered the solution to the problem of efficient and environmentally friendly combustion of hydrocarbon-containing fuels and the prevention of emergencies in combustion chambers and boiler plants. On the basis of the existing scientific background and the existing instrumental and experimental base, modern technologies for automating the combustion process using machine learning methods have been developed. Automation will reduce energy costs and prevent possible emergencies at thermal power plants and combustion chambers. The approbation of the technology and the formation of a data corpus for training the network was carried out using semi-industrial fire installations with a thermal power of about 5 MW, which make it possible to vary the parameters of fuel combustion in a wide range and, accordingly, to implement various combustion modes.

The experiments carried out using two methods of TGA (thermogravimetric analysis) made it possible to determine the ignition temperatures for brown coal, hard coal and anthracite treated both with activator mills (VCM, disintegrator) and with a standard hammer mill (initial coal). Practically all the results of coal ignition obtained by different methods correlate with each other. They show a decrease in the ignition temperature of micromilled coals during mechanically activated grinding. The analysis of the results of experimental studies made it possible to calculate kinetic parameters such as the ignition index, the maximum burning rate, the burnout index, and the comprehensive index. The data obtained are new and prove the effectiveness of mechanical activation treatment of coal fuel.
