Coal permeability evolution characteristics: Analysis under different loading conditions

Abstract: The drainage and utilization of coalbed methane (CBM) resources can not only ensure the safe production of coal mines but also can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment. Coal permeability is the key factor that affects the CBM drainage efficiency. To understand the coal permeability evolution characteristics, coal specimens reconstituted by coal powder with different particle sizes were prepared and their permeability under loading conditions was investigated. The results indicate that th… Show more

“…Additionally, compared with the lignite samples, phenol or aromatic ether carbon shows a strong correlation with the wettability, both of which are significantly correlated with the wetting ability at the 0.05 level (both sides). 39 Analysis of the main factors of the wettability of the surfactant in the gas coal samples. …”

“…e collapse of the borehole wall in any part of the 100-meter borehole will cause the limited length of the borehole to decrease, and the actual utilization rate of gas is low. e borehole, especially that in the soft coal seam with high gas content and low permeability, is often abandoned due to the collapse and blockage of a certain borehole, which makes the coal seam have a blank zone of gas extraction, resulting in potential coal and gas outburst [24,25]. e mining depth of coal mines in China is extending at the speed of 8-12 m per year and is estimated to reach 1000 m to 1500 m in the next 20 years.…”

“…Coal is a complex porous medium, and coal permeability is regarded as a key factor that characterizes the ability of fluids to flow through coal reservoirs 5,16,17 . Establishing a reasonable gas seepage model and revealing the regulations of gas migration in coal seam can provide a reasonable theoretical basis for the prediction of gas extraction quantity and design of gas extraction engineering.…”
