Coagulation and Complications of Left Ventricular Assist Device Therapy

Abstract: Implantation of left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) is becoming more common with the advancement of mechanical circulatory support technology and the continued insufficient number of organ donors available for heart transplantation. Modern LVADs provide a mechanically induced, nonpulsatile, continuous blood flow that drastically alters the hemodynamic and coagulation profile of patients using these devices. In addition to the risk of bleeding and thrombotic events, LVAD support can also lead to arrhythmias… Show more

“…Također, važnosti praćenja nalaza koagulacije (PV/INR), antikoagulatnoj terapiji, praćenje balansa tekućine, aktivnostima u svakodnevnom životu. 2 Zdravstvena njega bolesnika sa LVAD-om predstavlja izazov. Savjetodavna uloga medicinske sestre, individualni pristup te senzilibitet za potencijalne probleme čini nas sponom između cjelokupnog medicinskog tima i pacijenta i njegove obitelji.…”

“…Another unavoidable issue is the unceasing necessity of anticoagulant therapy (avoiding ischemic events) as well as regular coagulation and volume monitoring. 2 Patients healthcare, after implantation of a cardiac assist device, is nowadays still a challenging venture. The advisory role of the nurse an individual approach and sensibility for noticing and preventing potential risks makes the nurse a link between the entire medical team, the patient and his family.…”
