Co‐surfactant, co‐solvent, and hydrotropic properties of some common cooling agents

Abstract: Cooling agents are small organic molecules known to evoke a sensation of cold by interaction with the transient receptor. In the present study, we demonstrate experimentally that some cooling agents could behave as hydrotropes in aqueous solutions in the absence of surfactants, and also as co‐surfactants/co‐solvents in aqueous solutions in the presence of a surfactant forming an interfacial film. The hydrotropy and co‐surfactancy/co‐solvency effect depends strongly on the type of perfumery ingredient. The hydr… Show more

“…[9] WS-23 was practically insoluble in aqueous solution (S 0 = 0.46 mg mL À 1 ). [4] After the inclusion with M1 and M2, the ChemistrySelect solubility of WS-23 is significantly increased to 8.92 and 14.59 mg mL À 1 , which is increased by 19.39 and 31.72 folds, respectively (Table 3 and Figure S13 and Figure S14). Those results indicated that M1 and M2 might be suitable solubilizers for WS-23.…”

“…WS-23 has been extensively used in food, medicine, cosmetics, daily necessities products, etc., [1b,3] however, its inherent poor water solubility as WS-23 was practically insoluble in aqueous solution (S 0 = 0.46 mg mL À 1 ), low-temperature volatility, and short retention time greatly limits its further application in commercial industry. [4] Moreover, the low solubility and thermal instability of WS-23 still can not be improved effectively so far. During the last few decades, the macrocyclic molecules have been used to encapsulate guest molecules for their unique including capabilities to improve the solubility, bioactivity and stability of guest molecules.…”
