CO<inf>2</inf> emissions, fuel mix, final energy consumption and regulation of renewable energy sources in the EU-15

Abstract: Global warning has emerged as the most prominent problem of our times. As such reducing GHG emissions have become the centre of environmental policies across the globe. The EU wants to play a leading role to the direction of alleviating climate change and for that purpose has set targets to reduce GHG by 20% and raise the share of renewable energy to 20% by 2020. Regulation to promote RES is considered an important factor to achieve the target of reducing CO 2 emissions. However, the link between CO2 emissions… Show more

“…Looking at the bond between how regulations and infiltration of renewable e-nergy sources (RES) affect e-missions in EU-15 countries, Alexopoulos's study [17] looks at data from 1990 to 2008. He runs a series of tests, including panel unit root tests, panel cointegration tests, and panel causality tests, to discover the long-term and immediate effects.…”

“…On another research strand, analyses [18,19] examine the impact of regulations on energy sources (RES) in the EU 15 countries from 1990 to 2008. These studies stress that Renewables policies help reduce CO2 emissions and increase the share of res energy sources in the electricity fuel mix.…”

“…With the stricter emission regulations and fuel efficiency regulations, internal combustion engines are developing in the direction of energy saving and emission reduction [1][2][3]. VNT turbocharging technology can adjust the turbine flow ratio into the turbine depending on different working conditions, which can improve the diesel engine's dynamics and economy under certain working conditions [4].…”

“…Problems caused by the use of fossil fuels [1][2][3][4], although known for decades, have begun to occupy much of the public debate on the sustainability of the production model in recent years. The immediate consequence of this, is the orientation of states and industry to the invention and the exploitation of new technologies [5], which will have less or no environmental impact, but can at the same time compete with the thermal stations and the internal combustion engines.…”
