Воді притаманні досить незвичайні фізико-хімічні властивості порівняно з іншими рідинами. Її термодинамічні характеристики істотно відрізняються від параметрів інших гідридів. Аномальна поведінка води визначається наявністю водневих зв'язків. Ясно, що ці незвичайні властивості води відповідним чином трансформуються в процесі її взаємодії з іншими речовинами і, зокрема, зі спиртами, яким також властиві водневі зв'язки, а тому їх молекули, у свою чергу, можуть утворювати складні структури в полярних і неполярних розчинах. Відомо, що водним розчинам спиртів малої концентрації (0,03-0,06) молярних часток (мол. ч.) притаманні певні особливості. У них оптичними методами досить давно було виявлено, крім "нормального" піка при 0,2-0,5 мол. ч. вмісту спирту, ще й так званий додатковий пік [1] при 0,03-0,05 мол. ч. з аномальною поведінкою. Нормальний пік добре вивчений, зумовлений він розсіянням світла на флуктуаціях концентрації, тоді як появу та природу аномальної температурної і концентраційної поведінки додаткового піка на сьогодні остаточно не встановлено.
