In modern conditions of political confrontation and economic sanctions, ensuring national security is becoming a priority direction of state policy, not only in the long term, but also in the short term. The purpose of this study is to develop methodological support for assessing the level of industrial safety, which makes it possible to identify latent threats that reduce its level at each stage of the sugar beet business cycle. To achieve this goal, the structural and logical relationships of food independence, food security, industrial safety of sugar beet production were substantiated. The priority importance of industrial safety is proved for the economic development of business entities, ensuring the balance of their business interests and the formation of harmonious business relations, which make it possible to reduce the level of unused and underutilized opportunities. Using the example of the main stages of the beet-sugar business cycle - selection, seed production, beet growing, sugar production, sale (consumption) - a method for indicating industrial safety has been developed, which provides for the implementation of five stages and the implementation of an analytical complex consisting of nine indicators and six indicators. The proposed indicators at each stage of the sugar beet business cycle link the potential, actual and optimal level of indicators and make it possible to assess the balance of business relations and the level of industrial safety. The results of the indication can be used to analyze the actual state of the business cycle as a whole or its individual stages.

The paper discusses a method for obtaining a matrix of individual and group composition of a hydrotreated heavy gasoline fraction in industrial conditions based on the fractional composition obtained by the distillation method according to the ASTM D86 (the Russian analogue of such a standard is GOST 2177). A method for bounds estimation of the retention index (RI) change is considered on the basis of the symmetry of the RI change range relative to its arithmetic mean. Implementation of this method is performed by simulation of individual composition of C6–C12 feedstock of the catalytic reforming unit in the software package. For this purpose, the boiling curve of individual composition of hydrocarbon mixture is converted into the corresponding curve of fractional composition. The presented technique of creating a virtual soft sensor makes it possible to establish a correct relationship between the fractional composition and the individual hydrocarbon composition obtained according to the IFP 9301 (GOST R 52714) (Russian GOST R 52714 and international IFP 9301 standards for the determination of individual and group composition of hydrocarbon mixtures by capillary gas chromatography). The virtual soft sensor is based on chemical and mathematical principles. The application of this technique on the data of a real oil refinery is shown. Obtaining accurate data by means of a virtual soft sensor on the individual composition of feedstock will make it possible to optimize the catalytic reforming process and thus indirectly improve its environmental friendliness and enrichment efficiency.

Information technology adoption and small and medium enterprise performance: Does information technology adoption reduce rural penalty in emerging and developing countries?

This study examines information technology (IT) adoption effects on the performance of small and medium enterprise (SMEs) in emerging markets and developing economies and how the locational challenges faced by rural SMEs could be reduced by IT adoption. Using 8466 firm‐level data from the 2022/2023 World Bank enterprise survey from 13 countries, across Europe and Central Asia, Latin America, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Sub‐Saharan Africa, we used the entropy balancing technique and tested the effects of IT adoption on the relationship between remoteness and firm performance. Our results show that IT adoption positively affects firm performance and moderates the remoteness‐performance relationship, indicating that IT adoption reduces the rural penalty faced by remote firms. These findings imply that modern firms with sophisticated production methods outperform traditional ones; therefore, adopting information technology would benefit traditional rural firms.
