Abstract Emergency communication network (ECN) is essential for both disaster victims and rescuers since the pre-deployed network infrastructure may be completely destroyed after the earthquake.Traditional protocols cannot satisfy the requirements of ECN as they neither consider mobility model nor seismic intensity. In this paper, a four-quadrantmobility model (FQMM) based on seismic intensity is proposed for rescuers. Then a FQMM-based protocol (FQMMBP) forECN is designed, which aims to improve the performance of ECN. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol performs better than other three compared routing protocols (AODV, DSDV and DSR) in package delivery rate (PDR) and end-to-end delay. Although the performance of FQMMBP in overhead is not as good as the other three protocols, it is worthwhile for the emergency rescue.

Vehicular cloud computing is envisioned to deliver services that provide traffic safety and efficiency to vehicles. Vehicular cloud computing has great potential to change the contemporary vehicular communication paradigm. Explicitly, the underutilized resources of vehicles can be shared with other vehicles to manage traffic during congestion. These resources include but are not limited to storage, computing power, and Internet connectivity. This study reviews current traffic management systems to analyze the role and significance of vehicular cloud computing in road traffic management. First, an abstraction of the vehicular cloud infrastructure in an urban scenario is presented to explore the vehicular cloud computing process. A taxonomy of vehicular clouds that defines the cloud formation, integration types, and services is presented. A taxonomy of vehicular cloud services is also provided to explore the object types involved and their positions within the vehicular cloud. A comparison of the current state-of-the-art traffic management systems is performed in terms of parameters, such as vehicular ad hoc network infrastructure, Internet dependency, cloud management, scalability, traffic flow control, and emerging services. Potential future challenges and emerging technologies, such as the Internet of vehicles and its incorporation in traffic congestion control, are also discussed. Vehicular cloud computing is envisioned to have a substantial role in the development of smart traffic management solutions and in emerging Internet of vehicles.

Extensive research attention has been devoted to the Vehicular Sensor Network (VSN) owing to its great potential in environment monitoring. Still, it is difficult to diminish the broadcast storm and data collisions in vehicular senor environment. Due to improper broadcasting of safety message and transmission of packet at same time from multiple vehicles leads to collision. Our key intention is to overwhelm these shortcomings in VSN. Hence, we propose Novel Segment based Safety message broadcasting in Cluster (NSSC) based VSN. Our NSSC is mainly concentrated in three successive processes that are Cluster Formation, Collision Avoidance and Safety Message Broadcasting. Cluster formation is performed originally to sustain stable vehicular environment. Here, Variant based Clustering (VbC) Scheme is proposed to elect Cluster Head (CH) and to form clusters. CH is selected using Chaotic Crow Search (CCS) algorithm. In accord to mitigate the data collision during transmission between CH and Cluster Member, we propose Adaptive Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance (Ada-CSMA/CA) protocol. Safety message broadcasting adopts Segment based Forwarder Selection (SFS) scheme which selects optimal forwarder using Fuzzy-Vikor method. In this, optimal forwarder is selected concerning to broadcast safety message which reduces the broadcast storm. In regard to validate the proposed NSSC, we have conducted simulations on Omnet++ and SUMO simulator based Veins framework. The acquired results are auspicious in terms of succeeding metrics reachability, average number of collision, duplicate data packets, latency, packet delivery ration and throughput.
