Cybercrime is projected to cost a whopping $23.8 Trillion by 2027. This is essentially because there's no computer network that's not vulnerable. Fool-proof cybersecurity of personal data in a connected computer is considered practically impossible. The advent of quantum computers (QC) will worsen cybersecurity. QC will be a boon for data-intensive industries by drastically reducing the computing time from years to minutes. But QC will render our current cryptography vulnerable to quantum attacks, breaking nearly all modern cryptographic systems. Before QCs with sufficient qubits arrive, we must be ready with quantum-safe strategies to protect our ICT infrastructures. Postquantum cryptography (PQC) is being aggressively pursued worldwide as a defence from the potential Q-day threat. NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology), in a rigorous process, tested 82 PQC schemes, 80 of which failed after the final round in 2022. Recently the remaining two PQCs were also cracked by a Swedish and a French team of cryptographers, placing NIST's PQC standardization process in serious jeopardy. With all the NISTevaluated PQCs failing, there's an urgent need to explore alternate strategies. Although cybersecurity heavily relies on cryptography, recent evidence indicates that it can indeed transcend beyond encryption using Zero Vulnerability Computing (ZVC) technology. ZVC is an encryption-agnostic absolute zero trust (AZT) approach that can potentially render computers quantum resistant by banning all third-party permissions, a root cause of most vulnerabilities. Unachievable in legacy systems, AZT is pursued by an experienced consortium of European partners to build compact, solid-state devices that are robust, resilient, energy-efficient, and with zero attack surface, rendering them resistant to malware and future Q-Day threats.How to cite this paper: Raheman, F.

The seamless integration of multiple radio access technologies (multi-RAT) and cloud/edge resources is pivotal for advancing future networks, which seek to unify distributed and heterogeneous computing and communication resources into a cohesive continuum system, tailored for mobile applications. Many research projects and focused studies are proposing solutions in this area, the impact of which is undoubtedly increased by moving from theoretical and simulation studies to experimental validations. To this aim, this paper proposes a testbed architecture that combines contemporary communication and cloud technologies to provide microservice-based mobile applications with the ability to offload part of their tasks to cloud/edge data centers connected by multi-RAT cellular networks. The testbed leverages Kubernetes, Istio service mesh, OpenFlow, public 5G networks, and IEEE 802.11ad mmWave (60 GHz) Wi-Fi access points. The architecture is validated through a use case in which a ground robot autonomously follows a moving object by using an artificial intelligence-driven computer vision application. Computationally intensive navigation tasks are offloaded by the robot to microservice instances, which are executed on demand within cloud and edge data centers that the robot can exploit during its journey. The proposed testbed is flexible and can be reused to assess communication and cloud innovations focusing on multi-RAT cloud continuum scenarios.

As mobile communications transform, 5G technology can potentially change many industries and businesses. The change will have a great influence across many fields, such as the automotive, healthcare, and manufacturing sectors. This paper aims to review the existing applications of blockchain technology in providing 5G network security and identify new possibilities for such security solutions. We consider different aspects of blockchain in 5G, particularly data transmission, access control, and applications including vertical industry-oriented applications and specific solutions supporting such sectors of economic activity. The paper briefly describes modern technologies in 5G networks and introduces blockchain’s properties and different aspects of using such technology in practical applications. It also presents access control management with blockchain applied in 5G and related problems, reviews other blockchain-enforced network technologies, and shows how blockchain can help in services dedicated to vertical industries. Finally, it presents our vision of new blockchain applications in modern 5G networks and beyond. The new-generation networks use two fundamental technologies, slicing and virtualization, and attackers attempt to execute new types of attacks on them. In the paper, we discuss one of the possible scenarios exhibiting the shortcomings of the slicing technology architecture. We propose using blockchain technology to create new slices and to connect new or existing subscribers to slices in the 5G core network. Blockchain technology should solve these architectural shortcomings.
