Energy efficiency is an important managerial variable in service business models. Cloud computing advocates the innovation and design of open software services. How the supply of energy-aware software services affects the outsourcing strategies of IT businesses, however, is still not known. This research is concerned with the formation of green virtual organisations (GVOs). Such GVOs foster novel business models to enable the commercialisation of "green" software services. We approach the formation problem from a game-theoretic perspective, which provides well suited models for analysing sourcing strategies of service customers. For analysing the formation, we particularly study the social welfare by examining the economic and ecological efficiency of the GVO as a whole. The contribution of our research is an agent-based GVO formation mechanism that optimises the social welfare of service providers and customers. We demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed artifact in a set of simulation experiments.

The increasing industrial acceptance of cloud-based IT services has led to a paradigm shift in the development and operation of complex business applications. IT managers are incorporating cloudbased IT services as replacements and/or as enhancements for existing on-site solutions. This strategy leads to the concept of a federated business application, which consists of a variety of on-site and cloud-based subparts, dynamically orchestrated to a single solution. In this setting, the selection of appropriate IT services is critical. Following the discussions of environmental thinking in IT aspects like Green IT and Green IS, the issue of appropriate IT service depends on not only functionality and costs, but additionally also on the environmental impact of the service selection. To address this issue, this paper presents a service selection model for cloud-based services with a focus on the environmental aspects of the selection process. This is done by modeling a multi-criteria decision model based on the rational choice theory. The proposed model provides a selection process which leads to maximal service functionality coverage with minimal environmental impact for a given service provider setting. The application of the model is illustrated in a typical industry case.

Abstract. Efficient supply chains are a vital necessity for many companies. Supply chain management acts on operational processes, divergent and consolidated information flows and interaction processes with a variety of business partners. Efforts of recent years are usually facing this diversity by creating and organizing central information system solutions. Taking in account all the wellknown problems of these central information systems, the question arises, whether cloud-based information systems represent a better alternative to establish an IT support for supply chain management.Aim of this paper is to investigate this question. This is done by considering fundamental aspects of cloud-based solutions under the perspectives of the SCOR model. We present the SCOR model shortly and provide a current market perspective on cloud computing and supply chain from the position of logistics and from the perspective of the software industry. Along the five key processes of the SCOR model we evaluate the potential of cloud-based information system architectures, and we discuss successful implemented examples from practice, but also challenges in future implementation. The paper concludes with recommendations for design and implementation to cloud-based information system support for supply chain management.
