“…Using the definition of peripheral pulmonary stenosis proposed by Maroto and colleagues [9], a velocity in the branch artery that is 50% greater than the velocity in the main pulmonary artery, 16 of our 20 patients (80%) met this criterion in the left pulmonary artery after ductal closure, and in the right, none met this criterion.…”

“…The possibility of transient stenosis of the left pulmonary artery as a result of ductal closure was proposed by Maroto and colleagues in 1991 [9]. In that study, the dimensions of the main, left, and right pulmonary arteries were determined before and after ductal closure.…”

“…In the study by Maroto et al [2] only the LPA showed an abnormal flow pattern. In our study, flow in the RPA was also significantly accelerated although less than in the LPA.…”

“…After birth and closure of the ductus, the pulmonary trunk is much larger than the branches for several weeks with small transient pressure gradients in some newborns, particularly prematures. Recently, Maroto et al [2] demonstrated that in the premature, ductus closure precipitates a narrowing of the LPA and suggested that this was related to traction on the bifurcation. According to our findings, this cannot be the sole explanation since, in our study, flow through a small ductus arteriosus was detected not only in patients with murmur but also in controls.…”
