Small-scale LNG plant using pre-cooling cycle based on the organic Rankine cycle (ORC) technical and energy analysis was carried out. The first step of the research included modelling and optimization of natural gas mixed refrigerant (MR) liquefaction cycle with propane vapour-compression cycle (VCR) precooling. Calculations were used to determine value of heat and energy flows under various environmental conditions. The second step of the research included simulation of the ORC cycles using values of high-potential heat that were obtained earlier. Minimum possible cooling temperature was determined as the intersection point between required cooling capacity and possible cooling capacity of ORC-VCR system. ORC-VCR type refrigerators using natural refrigerants performance data was obtained and analyzed, optimal operational modes were determined. Applicability of the ORC-VCR type refrigerators was considered using obtained data. Potential cost-benefit of the ORC-VCR systems compared to traditional propane VCR systems data was obtained.
