By appropriate structural modification of known musk odorants, new strong musk odorants have been discovered. Incorporation of supplementary CH, or CH, groups into the basic musk skeleton of type G only slightly modifies the global shape of the molecule but leads to densely packed structures of enhanced lipophilicity. For the construction of these highly substituted 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalenes, new annulation sequences (intramolecular mono-and dialkylations; see Schemes 3.6, and 8) have been developed and, in certain cases, the design of the target molecules was dictated by both structure-activity-relationship and synthetic considerations (e.g. 46 and 47, Scheme 6). This work also presents an original solution to an analytical problem: the distinction between a C2-and a C,-symmetrical aromatic hydrocarbon (uiz. 7 1 and 72) by conversion into a [Cr(CO),arene]complex.

“…Clonazepam was approved for use as an antiepileptic drug, and it is also used to treat disorders other than epilepsy including panic disorders and various psychiatric disorders, various movement disorders, including periodic leg movements, familial startle disease, Huntington's disease, Tourette's syndrome, posthypoxic action myoclonus, insomnia, intention tremor, isolated blepharospasm, tardive dyskinesia, and Meige syndrome 9 . Hipola et al demonstrated that relief of blepharospasm was achieved with clonazepam in five cases of Meige syndrome, although clonazepam was not sufficiently effective on the associated oromandibular dystonia 10 .…”

We demonstrated the effect of clonazepam (2 mg/day) on Meige syndrome in two schizophrenic patients under continuous treatment with antipsychotic drugs, and changes in the plasma levels of g-aminobutyric acid (GABA), homovanillic acid (HVA), and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycol (MHPG) in these cases. The plasma levels of HVA and MHPG during treatment with clonazepam were decreased in the responder, while not changed in the non-responder to clonazepam. A difference between the responder and the non-responder was not found in the plasma GABA levels. These results suggest that hyperactivities of the central dopaminergic and noradrenergic neurones are involved in the pathophysiology of Meige syndrome.
