“…40 Corticosteroids are more effective than other topical therapies, such as calcipotriene, coal tar, and probably tazarotene, based on a limited number of head-tohead studies comparing them. [5][6][7][8][9] No studies are available to support the safety of topical corticosteroid use on the scalp beyond 4 weeks. 40 Epidemiologic studies have shown, though, that many patients use corticosteroids for more than 8 weeks.…”

“…32 In a randomized, parallel-group comparison of clobetasol propionate shampoo 0.05% and calcipotriol solution 0.05%, adverse events were more common in the calcipotriol group than in the clobetasol propionate shampoo group. 24 A single-centre, randomized study in 26 patients with scalp psoriasis confirmed that unlike clobetasol propionate gel, clobetasol propionate shampoo 0.05% does not lead to HPA axis suppression, is not atrophogenic, and does not have any effect on ocular safety. 34 The use of clobetasol propionate foam 0.05% is also associated with few adverse events, limited to mild and transient burning, or other application-site reactions.…”

“…A vehicle-controlled, 4-week study in 142 patients with scalp psoriasis confirmed that the treatment was significantly more effective at reducing patients' total severity score (TSS) than vehicle alone (P < 0.001). 21 Active comparator trials have also found that clobetasol propionate shampoo is significantly more effective than calcipotriol solution (P ¼ 0.016), 24 and tar-blend shampoo 1%…”

“…By contrast, the new MF cream and emulsion have an external aqueous phase and are real O/W formulations that make them also suitable for the treatment of acute inflammatory conditions. Together with the new MF formulations, Clobetasol Propionate (CP) shampoo has been developed for short-term contact therapy of inflammatory scalp conditions [36]. CP and betamethasone valerate are also available as foams [37].…”
