Cloacibacillus sp., a Potential Human Pathogen Associated with Bacteremia in Quebec and New Brunswick

Abstract: Bacteremia due toCloacibacillusspecies is poorly described. We present three cases involving eitherCloacibacillusevryensisorCloacibacillusporcorum. The isolates were identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing and were susceptible to antibiotics commonly used for anaerobic infections. The clinical significance of these organisms as potential emerging pathogens is discussed.

“…Patient 8, a patient with developmental delay and limitation of support, had a suspected infection that clinicians were unable to identify, ultimately resulting in the patient passing away from MODS several days following the study. Using the bacterial mapping, we isolated unique signatures of Cloacibacillus in all three days with a further elevation at day 8, a bacteria incredibly challenging to grow and shown to associate with multi-organ pathology similar to this patient (13) .
