Clinicopathological characteristics and outcome of 31 patients with ETV6-NTRK3 fusion gene confirmed (mammary analogue) secretory carcinoma of salivary glands

Abstract: The clinical course of SC is favorable with a low rate of locoregional recurrence and excellent survival. Given the low incidence of nodal metastases, elective neck treatment, i.e. surgery and/or radiotherapy, does not seem to be indicated.

“…The prognostic value of biomarkers for parotid cancers has been investigated by several researchers, these biomarkers can not only predict the survival of parotid cancers but also exert in uence on treatment decisions [29,30]. What's more, these biomarkers might be attractive therapeutic targets in patients with parotid cancers, and the prognosis associated biomarkers will further enrich the clinical prognostic model, whereas our model needs further validation to con rm how much additional prognostic information could be derived from its use.…”

“…The risk of local recurrence and lymph node metastasis is 15% and 20%, respectively. The risk of distant metastasis is around 5% and cases with high-grade transformation have a worse prognosis [35].…”

“…MASC shows chromosomal translocation t(12,15) (p13;q25), which results in the fusion of the ETV6 and NTRK3 genes . However, this translocation is not explicit for MASC and can be seen in other neoplasms, including secretory breast carcinoma, congenital mesoblastic nephroma and infantile fibrosarcoma . Other described tumours are not seen in the salivary gland region; therefore, this mutation helps in the diagnosis of MASC.…”
