Clinical value and potential mechanisms of COL8A1 upregulation in breast cancer: a comprehensive analysis

Abstract: Background: The situation faced by breast cancer patients, especially those with triple-negative breast cancer, is still grave. More effective therapeutic targets are needed to optimize the clinical management of breast cancer. Although collagen type VIII alpha 1 chain (COL8A1) has been shown to be downregulated in BRIP1-knockdown breast cancer cells, its clinical role in breast cancer remains unknown. Methods: Gene microarrays and mRNA sequencing data were downloaded and integrated into larger matrices based … Show more

“…The regulation of ECM-receptor interaction pathway was significantly associated with the metastasis of cancers such as colorectal cancer, 24 kidney cancer 25 and breast cancer. 26 Our results showed that ECM-receptor interaction was enriched in high expression group of GNG11, which indicating the migration risk of ovarian cancer. The dbDEMC analysis indicated that differential expression profile of hsa-miR-22-5p in blood was observed in ovarian cancer patients, suggesting that the tumor cells secreted the hsa-miR-22-5p into blood, and possibly caused the risk of distant metastasis and absorption by other organs.…”

“…In addition, the expression of COL8A1 in breast and colon cancers is significantly higher than that in normal counterparts. COL8A1‐overexpression is inversely correlated with the overall survival in patients with colon adenocarcinoma or breast cancer 16,111 . Collectively, these evidences indicate that collagen VIII promotes the progression of multiple types of cancer.…”

“…COL8A1 may affect the progression of colorectal cancer and the prognosis of patients by regulating focal adhesion-related pathways, and the expression of COL8A1 in colorectal cancer is related to the expression of Wnt2 and is linked to the poor survival of patients [ 28 , 29 ]. COL8A1 may promote breast cancer migration by affecting ECM receptor interactions and cooperation with other genes [ 30 ]. There are very few studies of COL8A1 in gastric cancer.…”
