“…They also reported that the CD4 ϩ SP T-cell subset decreased in association with lymphocytopenia, whereas the CD8 ϩ SP T-cell subset and the B-cell fraction remained unchanged even in tumor-bearing individuals and their descendants. Similar findings have been documented in patients with malignant tumor of the head and neck, 10 and there is a report that both Th1 function, which is involved in cellular immunity, and Th2 function, which is related to humoral immunity, are progressively depressed with progression of the tumor-bearing state. Thus, it appears likely that the B-cell function of antibody production and the cytotoxic function of CD8 ϩ SP T cells were not fully operating, and that the observed increases in the B-cell fraction and CD8 ϩ SP T-cell subset percentage were no more than apparent increases resulting from the marked decreases in the T-cell fraction and the CD4 ϩ SP T-cell subset percentage.…”
