A descriptive study was adopted on the assessment of risk factors of stroke among clients attending medicine OPD, BSMC&H, Bankura, and West Bengal with the objectives to assess the risk factors of stroke among clients attending medicine OPD, BSMC&H and to find out the association between the risk factors of stroke with the selected demographic variables. By non-probability convenience sampling, 180 clients were selected using a semi-structured interview schedule, structured interview schedule, bio-physiological measurement and perceived stress scale. The findings revealed that that 41.11% of clients with 40-50 years of age and 55% of clients were male, 41.78% of clients had a history of hypertension and 32.11% of clients taking antihypertensive medicine, 40.50% of clients has d family history of hypertension, 72.22% of clients had a moderate risk of stroke, 51.11% of clients had normal BMI and 42.22% clients with normal blood pressure without medicine and 72.78% clients with normal blood sugar level without medicine with 93.89% of clients had moderate stress. Statistically significant associations were found between risk factors of stroke with socio-economic class, hypertension with age, history of taking medicine, family history, between blood glucose with age, socioeconomic class, history of taking medicine, family history, level of stress with occupation, treatment of medical illness at 0.05 level of significance. The scope of generalization of findings were limited to the present study population and the study has implicated on nursing practice, education and research.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effectiveness of dual task training, gait training and vestibular rehabilitation on balance and quality of life in post stroke adults. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This Pilot study was carried out on 45 post stroke participants both male and female who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were recruited for the study with age group between 40 to 60 years from out-patient physiotherapy department of Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, Deemed to beUniversity. The subjects were randomly assigned into 3 groups, each group consisting of 15 subjects. Group A received dual task training for thrice a week of 45 minutes per session for 4 weeks. Group B received gait training program for thrice a week of 30 minutes per session for 6 weeks. Group C received Cawthorne and Cooksey exercises of vestibular rehabilitation for thrice a week of 60 minutes per session for 8 weeks. The outcome measures used were Global Quality of Life Scale (GQOL) and Berg Balance Scale (BBS). RESULT: When the mean values of GroupA, Group B and Group C were compared on GQOL and BBS scale revealed significant increase in the post test mean value with Group C showing 87 and 55 on GQOL and BBS respectively, which was higher than Group A mean values 84.1, 52.33 and followed by Group B mean value 80, 53.3 at p ≤ 0.001. Hence, Group C which received vestibular rehabilitation was more effective than other groups.

Background: Stroke is a major global health concern, ranking second in terms of fatality worldwide, following ischaemic heart disease. However, few stroke patients arrive at the hospital within the optimal time for thrombolysis, and even among those who do, not all receive this therapy. Therefore, the objective of the study was to examine the factors that influence the treatment of acute ischaemic stroke (AIS), particularly with intravenous thrombolysis and to evaluate the short-term outcomes. Methods: This prospective observational study was carried out between August 2019 and August 2021 in the emergency department of a tertiary care hospital. Patients with AIS who were eligible for intravenous thrombolysis within 4.5 hours of the beginning of symptoms were included in the study. Comprehensive assessments, including history, examinations and blood investigations, were conducted. Thrombolytic treatment was administered within the specified time frame, while antiplatelets were given in other cases. Follow-up evaluations were conducted at discharge and 90 days. Results: The age distribution, comorbidities and CT-MRI findings were similar between individuals who received thrombolysis and those who did not. Among the thrombolysis group, 84% had no complications, while 8% experienced intracerebral haemorrhage and 8% had an extension of the infarction. The overall mortality rate was 13.33% for non-thrombolysis patients and 12% for thrombolysis recipients, with no statistically significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion: The results highlight the need for careful consideration when deciding to use thrombolysis for AIS cases. Additionally, they emphasise the importance of actively monitoring and effectively managing any potential treatment complications.
