Clinical practice guidelines for the treatment of allergic rhinitis in children with traditional Chinese medicine

Abstract: Allergic rhinitis (AR) is one of the most common allergic diseases in children and it can lead to physical and mental health problems. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) plays an important role in understanding the phenotypes and treatment of AR. However, there are currently no normative clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for the treatment of AR in children. The study aimed to develop an evidence-based CPG for the treatment of AR in children with TCM.Systematic literature research, expert questionnaire, and c… Show more

“…In traditional Chinese medicine, allergic rhinitis was closely related to the evil of cold wind, and the main internal cause of the disease was the deficiency of the spleen and lung. Consequently, both internal therapy and external therapy were considered, and the treatment of both manifestation and root cause was necessary [ 8 ]. The main dialectical points of allergic rhinitis were episodic rhinitis, continuous sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, and cough [ 22 ].…”

“…Fu's subcutaneous needling technique may help alleviate shoulder pain (Bao, Wang, et al, 2021). TCM decoctions and herbs may help alleviate rhinitis symptoms (Feng et al, 2021). Biomarkers have been identified that may be associated with Yin deficiency syndrome, a condition said to be characterized by hot flashes and cardiovascular disturbances (Chen et al, 2020; Gan et al, 2020; Jiang & Li, 2023; Yi et al, 2020; Yu et al, 2018).…”

“…It is reported that the compound Maqin decoction (CMD) (Xie et al, 2016) and Fangxiao formula (FXT) (Ge et al, 2019) could inhibit the protein production level of Smad-3 in lung tissues, thereby resulting in the alleviated ASM thickness, which suggested the potential clinical effect of them in airway remodeling via TGF-β/Smad signaling pathway. Jin-Gui-Shen-Qi Wan (JGSQW), as a common formula originated from Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber, has been clinically utilized to treat various diseases belonging to kidney deficiency such as diabetes (Hu L. et al, 2021), allergic rhinitis (Feng et al, 2021) as well as asthma (Ji et al, 2018). Kao (Kao et al, 2018) surveyed the treatment of JGSQW on chronic asthma by suppressing the Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus-induced infiltration of inflammatory cells into airways.…”
