Clinical, pharmacological and immunological aspects of delayed pressure urticaria

Abstract: We studied the clinical features of thirty-two patients with delayed pressure urticaria, and special laboratory tests were performed in seven patients. Striking clinical features included a long duration of the disease (mean 6 years) and an elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate in 71%, dermographism in 63% and a leukocytosis in 33% of the patients. There was prolongation of weals in response to histamine, compound 48/80, concanavalin A and NaCl. In some patients, histamine and chemotactic factor levels were … Show more

“…12-Hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (12-HETE) is a less powerful leucocyte chemoattractant substance in vitro (PALMER et al 1980). In extracts of pressure lesions from a small number of patients with delayed pressure urticaria, chemotactic activity was found in L TB4 and 12-and 15-HETE, fractions though this was not statistically significant compared with controls (CZARNETZKI et al 1984). Thus, these compounds could be involved in the cellular response in the delayed urticarial reactions.…”
