“…Whereas this study did not focus on readmission or specific complications, the authors did note a return to the operating room for balloon stenting in 44.6% of the patients and a need for stenting in 21.8% of patients. In two smaller cohorts of patients undergoing tracheoplasty, high rates of multiple surgeries were also noted, which is consistent with the data presented in the current study . Because the natural history of airway stenosis is such that scarring, edema, or inflammation would recur in the majority of cases, reoperation would be an expected or planned event timed specifically to the patient's needs.…”

As such, there may be some exaggeration with how adverse events are calculated in ACS-NSQIP-P in the setting of airway reconstructive surgery, reoperation does not signify complication of the initial procedure.…”

“…It is not rare, as in our case, that intubation and mechanical ventilation is required (5, 7, 8). Surgical management is curative and consists of reimplantation of the LPA and tracheoplasty.…”

“…CPB has been historically used as the standard method for intra-operative respiratory support during complicated pediatric tracheal surgeries [4][5][6]. However, in recent years, ECMO is increasingly being used [7][8][9][10].…”
