“…The patients were followed up for a mean duration of 15.4 months, and eight (28%) patients were diagnosed with cerebral palsy during this period. A previous report stated that the incidence of cerebral palsy was 26-68% (9), and studies from Korea have reported that hemiplegia or hemiparesis occurred in 31-57% of patients (12,13). In our study, delayed development without any motor deficit was noted in 6 (21%) patients.…”

“…An international study of AIS patients reported that 49% had neurological deficits, including hemiparesis, with an odds ratio (OR) of 1.29, tone abnormalities (OR 4.56), focal deficit (OR 8.67) and feeding difficulties (OR 2.31) on discharge from the hospital (3). Korean studies on AIS have been performed previously, but these only included a small number of patients and the clinical conditions were diverse (12)(13)(14)(15). These studies reported that 38-70% of patients showed normal development, while 31-57% showed hemiplegia and hemiparesis (12)(13)(14)(15).…”

“…The internal capsule as well as the deep gray matter involving the basal ganglia more often is associated with neuromotor disability. 52,53 Cortical involvement in the MCA distribution with involvement of the basal ganglia and the internal capsule is associated with hemiplegia, while those with basal ganglia and internal capsule without cortical involvement also may have motor coordination difficulties. 54 Magnetic resonance imaging has played a pivotal role in detecting stroke in term neonates.…”

“…The underlying cause in many patients is unclear, but signs of dehydration and sepsis should be searched for in examination of the records and the child. Thrombosis of the venous sinuses has a mortality approaching 80% (12).…”
