“…administration of adrenaline and noradrenaline even in high dosage did not produce sweating in the small areas of skin studied by local techniques by Chalmers & Keele (1951) and by Foster et al (1970). Earlier reports suggested that given systemically, ephedrine, benzedrine and neo-synephrine may induce sweating in man (Chen & Schmidt, 1930; Wilbur, Maclean & Allen, 1937;Haimovici, 1948), but only the third of these is based on objective measurements.…”

The mechanism action of psychostimulants, such as d-amphetamine, is to increase catecholamines by indirect release from storage granules in synaptic terminals, as well as inhibition of re-uptake (Chiarello, 1987).…”

“…Bromide or luminal may be of occasional value. Benzedrine on rising has been used with success to produce temporary improvement as an aid to psychotherapy (Myerson, 1936;Wilbur, MacLean, and Allen, 1937), and I have sometimes found it useful. Prognosis In considering the results of treatment recorded by different authors it is wise to compare only the percentage returned to full duty, for whether a soldier is put on light duty or whether he is discharged may depend upon the importance of his civil occupation.…”
