“…Although the allergic rhinitis patient cohort had associated histories of asthma (30%, P < 0.01), eczema (19%, P < 0.20) and urticaria (17%, P < 0.30), respectively, only the asthma association was significant. Comparison of our demographic data with that of others revealed that in previously reported questionnaire studies, a positive family history was present in 50% of ‘allergic’ children sampled from a presumed Danish population [ 13]. The familial occurrence of both ‘atopy’ and allergic disorders per se is well known, but when there are no ‘atopic’ family members, 5–15% of the children are likely to be ‘atopic’.…”
