“…It has been suggested that a 20% change in the 25FTW and 9HPT represents a reliably true change in function, whereas lower levels of change might represent clinically insignificant day-to-day fluctuations. 37 In addition, it has been suggested that an increase of more than 20% in the 25FTW or 9HPT also indicates a clinically significant impact on disability, as perceived by patients with MS. [38][39][40] However, the clinically relevant change in the overall MSFC score has not yet been determined. 41 This limits the usefulness of the MSFC as an outcome measure.…”

“…17 Finally, the clinical interpretation of changes in MSFC z-scores is unclear. Although clinically meaningful scores have been recommended for the components of the MSFC, [37][38][39][40] clinically meaningful scores for overall MSFC scores have not been established. 41 Thus, the MSFC has not been used as a primary outcome measure in clinical trials and is not useful in clinical practice.…”

“…Research suggests defining a meaningful cut point may improve the responsiveness and predictive value of the MSFC [Kragt et al 2008]. This has been an ongoing area of research and there have been several explorations of MSFC scoring to define a meaningful change [Rudick et al 2009b;Kragt et al 2006b;Schwid et al 2002].…”

“…17 Several investigator groups have worked on the issue of what constitutes a clinically perceptible change in these measures. Some studies 18,19 examined changes in T25FW and 9HPT over time, along with changes in the Guy's Neurological Disability Scale (GNDS), 20 a rating scale evaluating 12 different domains. The comparisons for each test were made in a grouped manner; evaluating the mean GNDS change in patients categorized as: 20% or more improvement, less than 20% change in either direction, or 20% or more worsening.…”
