Clinical features of a paediatric asthma population in Trinidad

Abstract: Childhood wheeze occurs before 3 years and is associated with maternal asthma. Cough, fever and sore throat in the previous week are strongly associated with exacerbations. Defining these associations could enhance preventive approaches to combat childhood asthma.

“…Saharan dust incursions into the Caribbean typically increase in May and can cause respiratory symptoms. [70][71][72] Sub-nationally, factors like PM10 or mold levels affect air quality and have documented impacts on respiratory health, 73 though regional tracing of these variables is very limited. As for the indoor environment, now more than ever it is important to address the presence of aeroallergens in homes, as these too are linked to respiratory health.…”

“…Our data from Switzerland had an average of 32.7 mm, which is similar to that of 31 mm from Italy [27], 33 mm from Turkey [54] and Germany [2] and of 30 mm [37] and 34.2 mm [39], from the USA. Slightly shorter distances of 28.7-29.1 mm were found in a study from India [32] and Kenya with a range of 27.3-30.1 mm depending on the scapular notch type [55] and of 29 mm (23–35 mm) from Japan [38]. …”

“…Some studies have been conducted using isolated scapular bones [2432], and anatomical studies are excellent tools to investigate safe drilling distances. However, such studies have been mainly directed to the posterior aspect of the scapula to optimise interventions such as the Bankart and Latarjet procedures and rotator cuff repair [2, 27, 3340].…”
