“…The action of terramycin in the control of urinary tract infections is now well established. This has been demonstrated abundantly by Linsell and Fletcher, 6 by Nesbit et al , 19 by Carroll, 20 by Ball and Douglas, 21 and by others. Its remarkable activity against most strains of both gram‐positive and gram‐negative bacteria makes it especially effective in the control of this group of infections, and there is little doubt but that 1 to 2 grammes daily for a period of five to ten days is adequate to produce prompt and effective responses in patients in whom the invading organisms are susceptible and no organic or obstructive disease exists.…”

“…Many of Dr. Baum’s publications were important reviews and instructional articles on the current status of various urological diseases and how to manage them. A few were original articles involving clinical research [5, 8–11]. His most cited article is “Endocrine control of prostatic carcinoma: clinical and statistical survey of 1,818 cases” which was co‐authored with Dr. Nesbit and has been cited 387 times [5].…”

The topics included the following: a catalog system to maintain urologic cases that mimicked a Dewey Decimal System [3], ureteral cancer [4], endocrine control of prostate cancer [5], serum markers in prostate cancer [10], challenging presentations of prostate cancer [14], infertility in men [6], use of lidocaine as a urologic topical anesthetic [11], antibiotic use for urinary tract infections in adults and children [7,8,12,17,18], cystometry as a tool for evaluating neurogenic bladder [13], using ileum as a conduit for ureter reconstruction [15], diagnosis and management of obstructive uropathy in children [16], and workup and management of genitourinary injuries in pelvic trauma [19]. Twelve of these publications were co-authored with Dr. Reed Nesbit, the Chair of the Urology Department during Dr. Baum's tenure at the University of Michigan.…”
