Clinical effects and pharmacokinetics of nebulized lidocaine in healthy horses

Abstract: Background: Nebulized lidocaine appears promising as a novel corticosteroid-sparing therapeutic for equine asthma, but its safety and pharmacokinetic behavior have yet to be confirmed. Frontiers in Veterinary Science frontiersin.org Minuto et al. . /fvets. .unchanged, increased airway reactivity to histamine bronchoprovocation in the absence of clinical signs was seen in some horses following nebulization. Further research is necessary to evaluate drug delivery, adverse events, and e cacy in asthmatic horses.

“…This agrees with previous reports describing the pharmacokinetics of lidocaine HCl in horses. 6 , 9 In the present study, the mean terminal half-life of lidocaine (3.78 h), determined using NCA, was longer than that reported by Soma and colleagues (0.18 h). 6 However, it should be noted that the analytical method utilized in the current study was more sensitive as compared to the previous study.…”
