Clinical application and detection techniques of liquid biopsy in gastric cancer

Abstract: Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common tumors worldwide and the leading cause of tumor-related mortality. Endoscopy and serological tumor marker testing are currently the main methods of GC screening, and treatment relies on surgical resection or chemotherapy. However, traditional examination and treatment methods are more harmful to patients and less sensitive and accurate. A minimally invasive method to respond to GC early screening, prognosis monitoring, treatment efficacy, and drug resistance situat… Show more

“…Second, only a small number of circRNAs have been tested in conjunction with traditional tumor markers. As more and more differentially expressed circRNAs in GC are explored, this provides us with a good environment 30 . Whether utilizing technology to jointly diagnose the majority of circRNAs or other markers can maximize the diagnostic effect remains to be seen.…”

“…Research shows that GC with high PD-L1 expression, EBV+, and TMB-high responds better to immunotherapy, while H. pylori infection may impair its efficacy ( Lin et al, 2020 ; Oster et al, 2022 ). Circulating tumor DNA, monitored by liquid biopsies, shows potential in predicting ICI responses ( Jin et al, 2020 ; Ma et al, 2023 ). These biomarkers are worth further investigation and combinatorial biomarker strategies are more reasonable than traditional single immune-specific markers.…”

“…Exosomes are widely recognized as significant biomarkers for cancer diagnosis, prediction, and monitoring ( 78 ). Due to their stability and prevalence in circulation, they serve as valuable indicators for liquid biopsy techniques ( 79 ), enabling more accurate and less invasive treatments ( 80 ). Considering the active cross-talk of exosomes between immune and cancer cells, they can be utilized for immunotherapy to promote ( 81 , 82 ) or suppress ( 83 , 84 ) tumor proliferation.…”
