Clinical and radiographic evaluation of Biodentine and Mineral Trioxide Aggregate in revascularization of non‐vital immature permanent anterior teeth (randomized clinical study)

Abstract: Objective To asses clinically and radiographically the effect of using two types of coronal plug materials in revascularization of non‐vital immature teeth. Methods A total of 26 necrotic immature permanent anterior teeth were enrolled for pulp revascularization using a double antibiotic mix for root canal disinfection. They were randomly divided into the following based on coronal plug materials used: Biodentine (Group I) and white Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (Group II; n = 13). Clinical and radiographic asses… Show more

“…Secondary outcomes ‐ Pain on percussion: detected by tapping the tooth with the back of the mirror; Swelling: detected by visual examination of the labial vestibule; Sinus or fistula: detected by visual examination of the labial vestibule; Mobility: detected by applying pressure with the ends of two metal instruments; Crown discoloration: detected by visual examination of the crown; Root lengthening: calculated radiographically in mm and per cent by Digora. The same radiographic procedures and image analysis methods used preoperatively were repeated postoperatively at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months with the same exposure parameters and measurements to exclude any human errors due to geometric variations or image analysis” 28 …”

“…Achieving an adequate coronal seal is essential, since pulp revascularization is efficient only in teeth with the absence of root canal infection, that is, placement of an adequate material is crucial to avoid bacterial invasion into the pulp canal space. 29 MTA is the most material used for coronal barrier 10 due to its beneficial properties, as good sealing ability, low cytotoxicity, antimicrobial effect, biocompatibility and ability to induce proliferation of stem cells from apical papilla. 30 …”
