Clinical and Laboratory Evaluation of the Efficacy of Three Different Treatment Modalities in Management of Dentin Hypersensitivity

Abstract: Objectives:-This study was conducted to evaluate the clinical and laboratory effect of three different treatment modalities in management of dentin hypersensitivity. Materials and methods: one hundred-twenty samples were used in the study procedures, for dentin permeability test and Scanning Electron Microscopic examination (SEM). The samples were randomly divided into two groups Group A 1 , totally removed smear layer Group A 2 , partially removed smear layer. Each group was further subdivided into four subgr… Show more

“…via M Buonarroti, Capannoli, Italy) to allow for easy handling of the sample during the application procedures and removal after the dye application procedure. The samples were placed on their pulpal side leaving only the buccal or lingual surfaces exposed (10) . In group (A 1 ): Ca +2 @MSN and PO 4 3 @ MSN powders were mixed with distilled water in a ratio of Ca 2+ @MSN:Po 4 3-@MSN;H 2 O=0.015 g: 0.015 g: 150 mL to make the desensitizing slurry.…”

“…Three measurements (upper, middle and lower region in the analyzed area) were taken for each image, indicating the depth of the dye infiltration (length of dye penetration), and the mean was calculated for each specimen. The same examiner performed all of the measurements (10) .…”

“…The cervical cavity was first prepared with the smaller bur (#2) followed by the larger one to the same depth previously made by the first bur. Before the treatments, the samples were treated with 37% phosphoric acid gel for three minutes (after the acid application, rinsing, and drying for 30 seconds each) (12) for the smear layer removal and the dentinal tubules opening and representing maximum dentin permeability.…”

“…Secondly, the pulp tissues were carefully removed (without dentin walls touching) and using deionized water to thoroughly rinse the pulp chamber. To polish the occlusal side of the crown segments (flat dentin side) the bulk of the smear layer was removed, and then each tooth thin remnant smear layer was etched with 37 % phosphoric acid gel for three minutes ( after application of the acid, rinsing and drying for 30 seconds each) to keep the dentinal tubules patent (12) .…”

“…Mosleh et al [56] claimed that Curodont D'senz ® , Propolis extract, and ammonium hexafluorosilicate gel demonstrated effectiveness in alleviating the hypersensitivity symptoms, with propolis extract paste being the most effective within 1 to 2 weeks and sustained up to 3 months.…”
