Abstract: Introduction: We evaluated clinical and epidemiological characteristics of Trypanosoma cruzi infection in Sergipe. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we collected serum samples to identify serological markers of Chagas disease. A questionnaire was used, and electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, chest radiography, and contrast radiography of esophagus and colon were performed. “…With their own expertise, they contributed from the initial conception of the project, helped to choose Minas Gerais cities and changed project identification from CE XXI to CE21. Low level of education is a general profile of CD seropositive individuals [56][57][58], as observed in the present study. Most CD affected persons have a low income, and restricted access to education opportunities.…”

“…Most municipalities are in rural areas, with unhealthy housing, inadequate basic sanitation and mud huts, all of which facilitate the reproduction and maintenance of triatomines. A pilot study in 2016 showed 12.1% of seropositivity for T. cruzi infection in the city of Umba uba [8].…”

“…With a rate of 5.0%, Brazil's southeastern and northeastern regions have the highest prevalence of the disease [6, 7]. The state of Sergipe has some municipalities at high risk for the transmission of Chagas infection [8]. However, the spatial dynamics and the delimitation of potential risk areas for mortality due to CD are not known, and analyses of the various factors associated with the occurrence of CD and related mortality are needed that take into consideration socio‐environmental and economic aspects.…”
