Clinical and epidemiological analysis of keloids in Chinese patients

Abstract: Keloids are common abnormally raised fibroproliferative lesions that can occur following even minor cutaneous trauma. There are limited data on Chinese patients with keloids, and the purpose of our study was to investigate the clinical and epidemiological features of keloids in Chinese patients. Assessment was performed by unified, designed questionnaires. A total of 715 patients were enrolled and statistical analysis and heritability were performed using EPI INFO 6.0, SPSS13.0 and Falconer's method. Keloids o… Show more

“…Patients often showed a positive family history for keloids (19.7%) as is common with this affliction and keloids developing in the wake of severe acne. 25 Apart from the physiological scar group and the self-harm scar group the gender distribution of our patient clientele appeared relatively balanced indicating no significant differences in the need for scar treatment between different genders. However, the size of our patient groups limits our ability to draw further conclusions in this regard.…”

“…Keloid lesions show increased IL-4/IL-13 signaling and respond to Th2-targeting dupilumab therapy Editor Keloids are benign growths representing a disrupted wound healing process involving abnormal collagen proliferation. Keloids are most prevalent in African American (AA) 1 and Asian populations, 2 and greatly impact quality of life. 3 Keloids show high recurrence rates and current therapies (intralesional steroids, bleomycin, surgical excision, etc.)…”

“…The effectiveness of long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of venous lakes lies in the fact that its 1064 nm wavelength is preferentially absorbed by methemoglobin and has deep surface penetration of 4-7 mm. [2][3][4][5] Its photocoagulating effect allows therefore the specific targeting of the venous tissue, decreasing the possibility of relapse, and presents sufficient penetration for the treatment of deep-seated lesions. Several types of lasers have been used for the treatment of venous lakes of the lips and vascular malformations of the oral mucosa, including diode laser, 6 pulse-dye laser 7 and argon laser.…”
