CLIL Method to Increase Students' Motivation in Studying Mathematics at Higher Technical School

Abstract: The article looks into the issue of improving students' motivation during the study of Mathematics. This study focuses on the implementation of the С2 model within CLIL-approach while teaching Elementary Mathematics to students in higher technical educational institutions. The research analyzed the influence of teaching methods, modes, and resources, which can be used to support the teaching of mathematical discipline in English and improve students' motivation. The paper describes the types of students' activ… Show more

“…Elementary Mathematics is one of the most important branches of Mathematics, and is the foundation for training mathematics students at teacher training universities, which is substantiated by Vlasenko et al [4], stating that it is this subject that ensures revision, generalization and broadening students' knowledge of mathematical definitions and facts, which students were taught at school. The objective of the subject is also to develop would-be teachers' abilities and skills and teach them to apply those skills to practice.…”

“…According to the participants' responses, teachers working in state schools attach more importance to the implementation of practical activities than those in private schools. In fact, practical work is one of the most relevant tools enabling learners to learn procedural knowledge which focuses on the correct performance of actions (Vlasenko et al, 2020). For this reason, teachers in private schools should encourage more practical work in their CLIL classes so that learners are not deprived of some essential thinking skills that provide useful cognitive stimulation and support.…”

“…Looking for a solution to this problem, Perikos et al [2], Kauffman [40], Vlasenko et al [42] proposed developing on-line courses for non-formal education of teachers. The idea of developing on-line courses aligns with the conclusions by Lovianova et al [41], who researched forming ІК-competency of students while teaching Mathematics-related subjects.…”
