Cleavage of double bond using metal‐loaded ZSM‐5 zeolite catalysts for renewable biochemical application

Abstract: This work aimed to investigate the use of mesoporous metal-loaded ZSM-5 zeolites for efficient cleavage of C═C double bonds for renewable biochemical applications. In the presence of a benign H 2 O 2 , these catalysts exhibited the high catalytic activities for oxidation of double bonds in styrene and fatty acids. Selective oxidation of styrene forming benzaldehyde was first studied using mesoporous Cr/ZSM-5 zeolite as a model reaction to evaluate the catalytic activity in the cleavage of the double bond. Oxid… Show more

“…ZSM-5 zeolite would contain two types of acid site: Brønsted and Lewis site aer ion exchange process with cation Me n+ or adding sulfonic acid function group into the structure of zeolites. [24][25][26][27] There have been some reports on application of zeolite, especially ZSM-5 zeolite for conversion of glucose and carbohydrate into HMF. 21,22 However, the efficiency of the process and yield of HMF was not high.…”

“…The supported catalysis state of the art reports the use of hierarchical structures prepared through the synthetic or postsynthetic procedures previously discussed (Section 3.1). An example of a modified support during the synthesis was provided by Hoang et al [50], who introduced mesoporosity at ZSM-5 during the zeolite synthesis by using CTAB surfactant. Later, chromium and tungsten were immobilized by the conventional incipient wetness impregnation method.…”

“…In 2018, metal-loaded ZSM-5 zeolite catalysts were investigated for the selective oxidation of styrene by Hoang et al [ 48 ]. Metal-loaded ZSM-5 zeolites (Cr-ZSM-5 and W-Cr-ZSM-5) were prepared and used for styrene oxidation in the presence of H 2 O 2 .…”
