Clearable Black Phosphorus Nanoconjugate for Targeted Cancer Phototheranostics

Abstract: Therapeutic efficacy of synergistic photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT) is limited by complex conjugation chemistry, absorption wavelength mismatch and inadequate biodegradability of the PDT-PTT agents. Herein, we designed biocompatible copper sulfide nanodot anchored folic acid-modified black phosphorus nanosheets (BP-CuS-FA) to overcome these limitations, consequently enhancing the therapeutic efficiency of PDT-PTT. In vitro and in vivo assays reveal good biocompatibility and commendabl… Show more

“…Owing to their stoichiometric transition metal semiconductor nanostructures, CuS is able to be employed as outstanding photoacoustic agents for imaging [133]. Additionally, CuS is a well-reported PTA, exhibiting wide absorption range in the NIR window [134]. It was also reported that CuS can produce a huge amount of ROS for PDT upon NIR irradiation, which is realized via the Fenton-like reaction or Haber-Weiss reaction [135,136].…”

“…BP was mixed with additional photothermal agents by the researchers. BP@PDA-Ce 6 110 and BP-CuS 111 had photothermal conversion efficiencies of 33.2% and 62.6%, respectively. The researchers also combined BP with flaky, 112 biconical, 113 spherical, 114 and rod-shaped 115 AuNPs to enhance light absorption, 1 O 2 generation, and thermotherapy via local surface plasmon excitation resonance.…”

“…The therapeutic effects were studied on a 4T1 tumor model. 154 Ru(II) complex-modied single-walled carbon nanotubes (Ru@SWCNTs) were developed as nanotemplates for bimodal PTT and two-photon PDT. The p-p interactions allowed SWCNTs to interact and load a signicantly high amount of Ru(II) complexes (Ru1 or Ru2).…”
